In my collection I have a triple album with the above _title_. It's good to put on in the car on very long journeys I do have doubts though about the credentials of some of the included tracks. Do they all really qualify as Prog ? Van Der Graaf Generator: Theme 1 Genesis: Dancing With The Moonlit Knoght Yes: Roundabout Manfed Mann's Earthband: Joybringer Curved Air: Back Street Luv Hawkwind: Silver Machine Jethro Tull: Locomotive Breath Focus: Hocus Pocus Emerson, Lake & Palmer: Hoedown Atomic Rooster: Tomorrow Night Deep Purple: Child In Time Colosseum: Valentyne Suite Peter Gabriel: Here Comes The Flood Mike Oldfield: Tubular Bells (Part 1) Caravan: Winter Wine Kevin Ayers & The Whole World: May I? Rare Bird: Sympathy Procul Harum: A Salty Dog Barclay James Harvest: Mockingbird Anthony Phillips (with Mike Rutherford & Phil Collins): Which Way The Wind Blows Emerson, Lake & Palmer: Lucky Man Roxy Music: In Every Dream Home A Heartache Electric Light Orchestra: 10538 Overture Hatfield & The North: Mumps Frank Zappa: Peaches En Regalia Camel: Rhyader Gentle Giant: Pantagruel's Nativity Egg: Germ Patrol Matching Mole: O Caroline Greenslade: Bedside Manners Are Extra Steve Hillage: Meditation Of The Snake Steve Hackett: Spectral Mornings Be Bop Deluxe: Ships In The Night Man: Keep On Crinting Van Der Graaf Generator: A Plague Of Lighthouse Keepers There are many there that are never included on any of Raja's lists - and there are also still some notable exceptions. The Best Prog Rock Album In The World and no Pink Floyd??? Maybe it comes down to how you define Prog - but I would have said it was music where compositional effort was used to take the music beyond the standard rock parameters (there's a load of pretentious waffle for you . Other bands I would regard as (at least partly) Prog would be Supertramp, Mostly Autumn, The Enid, and of course, some of Led Zepplin's catalogue (but not the blues-rip-off stuff). Some bands also came up with an odd track or two but wouldn't really fit otherwise (All About Eve, Queen, maybe even Simple Minds). So, define Prog and debate the inclusion of the above. And PLEASE don't start dismissing various names with meaningless put downs ;-]

CTTE is their best song IMHO.

In my collection I have a triple album with the above _title_. It's good to put on in the car on very long journeys I do have doubts though about the credentials of some of the included tracks. Do they all really qualify as Prog ? I like the Giant Pea LP from the 60s/70s? as a good example of this. Also the Just a Taste LP (with the nudie cover) had a good selection of mostly prog type stuff. Supernatural Fairy Tales was a good effort, along with the Krautrock: Music for Your Mind series. For the ultimate prog roadtrip experience, I recommend the Desert Island Prog series of CDs compiled by members of alt.music.sound.mp3.prog (there has been three editions, with approx 20 CDs each year). 90% of the selections are solid progs, and care was taken to prevent repeat selections. The whole gamut, from RIO to Pastaprog to Krautrock to Sympho is there, plus a generous helping of the 'giants' like Yes, KC, ELP, Genesis, Gentle Giant, PFM, Focus, etc. ciao
